Rare opportunity for “Peter and the Starcatcher” cast
The cast and crew of the fall play, Peter and the Starcatcher, were treated to a rare opportunity last Wednesday—the chance to hear from celebrated novelist Ridley Pearson, the co-author (with Dave Barry) of book series Peter and the Starcatchers. Mr. Pearson is a personal friend of Enrichment Director Tessa Anable, who helped make the connection for the benefit of the Upper School Theater Program.
Mr. Pearson skyped for almost an hour with an attentive and curious group of theater students. He began by explaining the long, collaborative, and creative journey that resulted in the book becoming a play. He spoke passionately about the themes in the story and the delight he takes in each of the characters. He spoke at length about the creative and inventive style of this theater piece.
The actors had a rare opportunity to ask him about his inspiration for the story and details behind the actual characters they were playing. He urged the cast and crew to see this as a play about family and ensemble. The “Peter” team emerged from this discussion with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of this delightful play.
