Registration opens for 2025–26 Extended Day on May 14, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
Waynflete’s Extended Day after-school program provides students with a space to explore and grow. Our dedicated team creates a variety of activities to engage and inspire our students. These include arts and crafts, sports, hands-on science exploration, team building challenges, outdoor play and exploration, walking field trips, cooking projects, multi-generational lessons, and giving back to the greater Portland community. From homework help to fun physical activities, our program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn, grow, and socialize in a relaxed setting after their school day.
Days and times for Lower School students:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:15–6:00 p.m.
- Wednesdays from 12:15–6:00 p.m.
Days and times for Middle School students:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:30–6:00 p.m.
Groupings: Students join small grade-level groups during our Extended Day program. These groups mirror our academic day grades.
- Early Childhood (ages 3–4), 1:8 ratio
- Kindergarten–grade 1, 1:10 ratio
- Grades 2–3, 1:10 ratio
- Grades 4–5, 1:10 ratio
- Grades 6–8 (The Hive), 1:13 ratio
Registration for the 2025–26 school year opens on Wednesday, May 14, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
The Auxiliary Programs department offers Extended Day care, Enrichment Workshops, Enrichment Music Instruction, seasonal Athletics Clinics, SAT prep classes, and summer camps for ages 4–16 at Summer at Waynflete.

Extended Day Hours
Lower School: EC–3 to Grade 5
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 3:15–6:00 p.m.
- Wednesdays (half day dismissal): 12:15–6:00 p.m.
All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m.

Note: Due to the high demand for care and our needs to staff accordingly, we will not have drop-in passes available when registration opens in May. If spots are still available we will open drop-in options on September 8, 2025 for families to purchase.
Full-time Extended Day and Enrichment workshops:
Students in full-time Extended Day receive a 25 percent discount on the cost of most Enrichment workshops. Families can use the code “FT_ED” when registering for Enrichment workshops to receive the discounted rate.
Extended Day Ten-Day Pass and Enrichment Music Instruction:
Enrichment Music Instruction students may sign up for a ten-day drop-in pass at a 50 percent discount. Families can use the code “EMI_ED” when registering for an Extended Day ten-day pass to receive the discounted rate.
Full Fun Days and Special Event Care
Full Fun Days and Special Event Care
Full Fun Days provide full-day care (8:00 a.m.–3:15 p.m.) for students in EC through grade 5 on days when school is closed due to school events, such as parent conferences and faculty professional development days. Partial day care is provided for days with special events, such as Grandparents and Friends Day in May. Full Fun Days are purchased separately from Extended Day packages.

OUR APPROACH
Extended Day Teachers
Extended Day teachers provide a healthy snack and age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities, including a balance of structured games, science/art projects, and free play.
The Extended Day team is made up of the Director of Auxiliary Programs, Coordinator of Auxiliary Programs, Manager of Auxiliary Programs, and 10+ experienced educators.
Extended Day teachers bring demonstrated skills in classroom management, lesson planning, and social and emotional learning concepts (SEL). Teachers communicate with Lower and Middle School faculty and the school counselor to address individual student needs.
Auxiliary Programs Office
Waynflete’s Auxiliary Programs department oversees the daily Extended Day program, weekly Enrichment workshops, Enrichment Music Instruction, Athletic Clinics, and Summer at Waynflete camp programs. The director designs age-appropriate learning opportunities for Lower and Middle School students, bringing local teaching artists, musicians, and specialized instructors to campus to share their experience, talent, and inspiration after school. We invite you to share your ideas for engaging programs and activities!
The Auxiliary Programs department is focused primarily and intentionally on social and emotional learning (SEL) and creating opportunities for our students to learn lifelong skills and lessons. We provide a nurturing environment, friends, athletic and social opportunities, organized games and supervised free play, and space to make a few mistakes—all in an atmosphere conducive to learning.
Participants discover new interests and talents while building skills that enrich life. Auxiliary Programs staff, teachers, and workshop instructors facilitate team-building to foster an inclusive community where every voice matters and students can share their unique contributions and points of view.

Teaching Standards
Extended Day teachers maintain consistency between the Extended Day program and Waynflete’s Lower and Middle School programs, including responsive classroom teaching principles. Students are encouraged to develop and share a point of view and to be risk-takers in an environment that is emotionally and physically safe and nurtures individual expression. The Extended Day Standards inform our approach to social interactions and relationships, community-building, programming and activities, our daily environment, as well as safety, health, and nutrition.
Responsive Classroom and Consistent Core Values
Each day, Extended Day students make the transition to out-of-school-time programs through a brief circle time or community meeting to establish the student-teacher connection and provide time for each student to be seen and heard. Daily jobs provide opportunities for students to practice responsibility. Each program creates a charter in which students decide on a few important rules to live by. Waynflete’s core values create the foundation for Extended Day decision-making and rules:

Wellness Statement
Nutritious Daily Snacks
Daily snacks provided in Extended Day are wholesome and nutritious; high in vegetable, fruit, and natural grains content; and low in sugar content. When possible (as health protocols allow), snacks are homemade on campus by the Extended Day teaching team. Extended Day programs can accommodate most medical and allergy restrictions. Our staff is trained to maintain a high standard of allergy awareness and an environment that enables accommodation of various allergies.
