State of the School 2021
On February 11, Head of School Geoff Wagg gave a virtual State of the School address to the Waynflete community from the Klingenstein Library in the Lower School. Geoff reviewed the past year, outlined the elements that will help shape the future, and discussed the issues we must grapple with in preparation for the next academic year.
Geoff began the evening by introducing Andy Klingenstein, son of Patricia Davis Klingenstein ’47, who presented the 2020 Klingenstein Award to Charlie Miller ’65. The Klingenstein Award recognizes Waynflete alumni who do extraordinary work in the community and the wider world. Following the Klingenstein Award presentation, President of the Board of Trustees Chris Smith presented the 2020 Drake Award, which acknowledges outstanding service to Waynflete, to Hilary Holm ’82.
After the awards presentations, attendees viewed a moving visual retrospective of the past year, which Geoff dedicated to the tireless work of Waynflete’s faculty and staff. Geoff then described the social, technological, economic, environmental, and political pressures that will affect the future of our school and the programs we offer. Geoff addressed what is on most people’s minds: what will the next school year look like? After a question-and-answer session, the evening concluded with an uplifting video that showed the incredible spirit of students and faculty on campus during this extraordinary year.
